Our Guide to ECONYL ® Brand
Everything You Need to Know About Our ECONYL ® Nylon
What makes us a sustainable swimwear brand? For one, our partnership with ECONYL ® Brand. And therefore, our use of ECONYL ® Nylon for our entire sustainable swimwear collection.
But what is ECONYL ® Nylon? How is it different from regular Nylon? And how is it made?
This blog should answer all your ECONYL ® Brand questions and cover the major reasons why we, at Cosmokini, knew we had to choose this fabric when creating our collections.
Who Is ECONYL ® Brand?
So firstly, let’s introduce our partners, ECONYL ® Brand. With a tagline, ‘No waste. No new resources. Just endless possibilities’, you can start to get an idea of what the brand is all about. With a focus on using what we have already rather than resolving to always create from new, ECONYL ® Brand wants to construct a circular future. Designing recyclable products using recycled materials and therefore closing the loop when it comes to manufacturing and production.
What Is ECONYL ® Nylon?
Regenerated Nylon made by ECONYL ® Brand is the fabric changing the industry. And the fabric used for Cosmokini’s entire sustainable swimwear collection.
With a look and hand-feel just like regular Nylon, ECONYL ® Nylon is innovatively made using waste that is otherwise polluting our oceans and the earth around the world. What kind of waste? From discarded fishing nets found deep in the ocean to other plastic-based post-consumer waste, ECONYL ® Nylon uses only polluting waste transformed into this fully-recyclable material. With infinite use possibilities, including premium-quality sustainable swimwear.
How Is ECONYL ® Nylon Made?
ECONYL ® Nylon is created in a 4-step process.
Step 1 – Rescue
This step includes actually finding the waste that is currently polluting the earth from fishing nets in the oceans to discarded carpets in landfill. This waste is then sorted and thoroughly cleaned on the hunt for any and all usable Nylon.
Step 2 – Regenerate
All the Nylon waste previously collected is then put through an innovative purification process. This means ECONYL ® regenerated Nylon is exactly the same in structure as regular fossil-based Nylon.
Step 3 – Remake
Next, the regenerated Nylon is then processed into yarns and polymers which is then used within the fashion and textile industries – including the swimwear sector!
Step 4 - Reimagine
Lastly, but most importantly for us, this regenerated ECONYL ® Nylon is used to create new products. These ECONYL ® Nylon products are then fully recyclable when they re-enter the circular recycling process.
One of the most popular and well-documented fabrics to use for sustainable swimwear, ECONYL ® Nylon was a clear choice when we were building the foundations of Cosmokini. Not only does it shine because of its backstory and manufacturing process, but the superiority of the fabric quality was also crucial for us and our designers.
