5 Ways to Start Shopping More Sustainably
Shop with The Environment in Mind from Today
At Cosmokini, great style is always at the top of our agenda. But here, we also balance this with a need to ensure everything we do is sustainable, ethical and as environmentally-friendly as possible.
If you’ve found yourself here on our blog – and on this page, in particular – then you’ve likely been thinking about sustainability too. And the impact your choices can and do have on the planet. And we’re excited to see you here!
If you’re at the beginning of your sustainability journey, here are a few of our top tips to start shopping more ethically when you’re on the hunt for anything from jeans to swimwear.
Change Your Mindset
Shopping sustainably doesn’t mean it’s harder or more expensive. But many people seem to think that these things go hand in hand. You might also believe that your choices are unlikely to make all that much difference.
However, these small actions and decisions individually make all the difference eventually.
Start changing your mindset about the way you shop fashion and why. And start telling people about the brands you find! - You’re already helping to pass forward your ethical influence.
Listen Up
Brands want to tell you if they’re sustainable, ethical or eco-friendly in any way. If a brand isn’t letting you know through their website or social pages information about their stance on sustainability, they’re probably not doing their best to be ethical.
Listen up to what brands tell you. And pay attention to what they don’t.
Find Brands That Focus on Fabric
One thing that can help when you’re starting out on your journey to shopping more sustainably, is to focus on fabric. There are a lot of aspects to consider to do with ethics and eco-friendly practices, but when it comes down to it, if a brand is still using a harmful and unsustainable fabric for their collections, you’re probably going to want to steer clear.
Find brands – like Cosmokini – that openly and LOUDLY let you know about the sustainable fabrics that go into the collections. I.e. our incredible ECONYL ® Nylon which is made using recycled fishing nets and other recycled post-consumer waste.
Think About Wears
Have you heard of the #30wears campaign started by Eco-Age? It’s a great way to start thinking about what you’re buying and why before you buy it.
When shopping, think – would I wear this item 30 times?
Yes? It sounds like a good investment.
No? It sounds like a potential trend or one-off piece that you probably don’t need. This is not the most sustainable way to shop for clothes.
Inform Yourself
If you’re reading this then you’ve already shown an interest in sustainability and that’s a great start!
Take the time to inform yourself about what sustainable fashion actually means and the different ways that brands are committing to it. There’s a lot of ‘green washing’ going on out there where brands are half-heartedly ‘becoming sustainable’. But are they really?
Once you’re more informed, you can learn how to easily look out for important points as well as the red flags for brands that you’re not sure about.
We know how important it is for us at Cosmokini to dedicate our brand to using only sustainably-sourced materials. And when we find customers who feel just as passionately about this as us, it makes it all worthwhile.
Shop sustainable swimwear from the latest Cosmokini collections for one-piece swimsuits, bikinis and super chic coverups, perfect for this summer.
